ONSET DATALAB & DIT: Streamlining On-Set Digital Workflows

At Macwell Digital, we specialize in seamlessly processing digital data from cameras, including the creation of dailies. Our mobile On-Set Labs, equipped for backing up and processing data from digital movie cameras, offer a versatile range of services, including color grading, sound synchronization, QC, and dailies creation for editors, VFX, directors, and producers. We ensure thorough and secure backups, including the use of LTO tapes.

How it Works:

Our design prioritizes safety and mobility. Our labs are ready for action within two minutes of reaching their destination. In the absence of a power grid, our own generator ensures a continuous power supply. Our dedicated DIT takes care of technical aspects, from camera management to reloading. Once the material is reloaded, the DIT performs backup, color grading, adds sound, and prepares dailies for various platforms, including Avid and FinalCut.

Dailies in a Flash:

Our commitment to efficiency means that dailies, or rather “hourlies,” are typically completed by the end of the day. This allows producers, directors, or DoPs to review shots on their way home, using devices like the iPad for convenience.

Beyond Basics:

We go a step further by offering streamable dailies, enabling quick internet distribution on the same evening. Our M-Dailies system ensures robust safeguarding of rights, private files, and other sensitive data. It’s also capable of distributing editorial cuts of scenes or entire projects.

Archive on Wheels:

Our DataLab boast a substantial encrypted 350 TB Raid array, ensuring comprehensive backups for most projects. Even data from the last several dozen days can be easily retrieved when needed. For smaller projects, we offer a compact version of our on-set DIT cart.

Live Grading for Ambitious Projects:

For ambitious projects, we provide Live Grading directly on set, collaborating with the DoP and covering up to four cameras simultaneously. Our sophisticated metadata system allows color corrections to be seamlessly integrated into the entire post-production process, making it more cost-effective and time-efficient.
